DITT Celebrates Girls in ICT day
The Department of Information Technology & Telecom organized an Open Day event to celebrate Girls in ICT Day. The Hon'ble Minister and Dasho Secretary, MoIC graced the occasion. International Girls in ICT Day, is an initiative by ITU (International Telecommunications Union), aiming to create a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to consider careers in the growing field of ICTs, enabling both girls and technology companies to reap the benefits of greater female participation in the ICT sector. International Girls in ICT Day is celebrated on the 4th Thursday in April every year, which falls on 27th April this year.
To showcase the roles of Bhutanese women in ICT, a tour was organized to offices, where women work, such as Application Division and BtCIRT from DITT, OAG, Bhutan Telecom Limited and an animation company founded and operated by group of young girls in BITC, Thimphu TechPark. The main objective was to inspire the students to be part of the ICT fraternity by opting ICT as their career path or to showcase opportunities in this sector, especially for girls. Female students from schools in Thimphu attended the event.
